What leads to referrals? Surprisingly, a lot of wedding photographers believe the only factor is the quality of work they delivered. They seem to think by providing excellent service, they are entitled and likely to get referrals from their clients.
While there is no denying that quality of work will (and should) remain the primary reason for referrals, there’s a lot more to it than that. If you want to maximize your chances of getting referrals, and maximize the number of referrals you get, you need to be doing a lot more. Your brand as a photographer needs to be continuously reinforced to your client to keep it in their memory.
The branding and marketing activities that photographers typically engage in, don’t often work out very well
i) Business Cards
Like many other professionals, photographers use business cards in hopes that people will hold on to them, and contact them later with good news. But let’s be real here, any business card is a lot more likely to end up in a shoe-box, or worse in the recycling bin.
ii) Custom branded CD/DVD with shoot photos
A nice try at branding, but has a very fast “expiry date”
The content is usually copied onto another medium (computer/hard drive), rendering the CD or DVD useless after, and thus reduced exposure to your brand
So how can you improve on this?
What if you could provide your clients an incentive to hang on to your business card? What if the medium that the shoot photos were delivered on, WAS your business card? What if they could use your business card for a lot more, giving them a reason to always keep it in their wallet?
This is exactly what the purpose of USB business cards for wedding photographers is. Using USB business cards will maximize your brand exposure in the following ways:
1. Brand you as a high-value
2. Memorable AND useful to client
3. Exposure to client’s friends
